Kirkby Stephen Hostel is now Independently Owned

Kirkby Stephen Hostel is now independently owned and no longer part of the YHA so make sure you keep visiting our website to make any future bookings and to keep up-to-date on what is happening.

In the UK, the YHA undertook a detailed review of its hostels and in 2006 announced it would close 32 hostels over three years. These hostels were either deemed no longer viable or the cost of renovating was prohibitive. A significant number of the 32 hostels were sold onto private individuals and now operate as Independent hostels.

Kirkby Stephen Hostel is one example of a hostel that used to be listed with YHA but is now independently owned by Denise Robinson. Our converted Methodist Church offers a range of cost effective accommodation to suit groups, families and young travellers in a historically rich small market town in Cumbria and still has striking features with its stained glass windows and original pews.

We have taken on Kirkby Stephen Hostel to keep a unique building available to people who want a comfortable stay in unique surroundings for a similar price to YHA

Absolute heaven after six days walking. Very very comfortable, loved every minute of the stay and worth every penny! I had very sore feet and Denise very kindly drove me into Kirkby Stephen which was much appreciated. Highly highly recommended.
